Is ABS-CBN’s Shutdown Is Justifiable During This Time?

ABS-CBN's Shut Down is the right thing to do, to respect our law in the country.

A giant network of the Philippines, known as ABS-CBN had just been recently ordered to shutdown by the National Telecommunication Commission. As the shutdown is ordered due to its franchise expiration falls on May 4th of this year.

ABS-CBN is one of the major networks of the country that employs thousands of workers. As this day comes, many Filipinos is expected that this giant network will shut down, since the franchise is not renewed due the Covid-19 Pandemic hammered the country.

ABS-CBN falls on “a congressional franchise” where they will have a grant to operate for 25 years, where the House of the Representatives should discuss this matter prior this month. Of course, Covid-19 Pandemic hits the country, and many strict preventive measures is imposed. Then, many of the congressmen were not able to tackle this matter.

Since, this network is a business entity, then it should not operate under any circumstances if the said franchise is not yet renewed.

So, we should respect the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) imposing of the law to shut down the ABS-CBN. And there’s should nothing more than just that.

As to their employee’s, then this is a very sad day, because we should have lost the job now, especially during this difficult time. But, if the NTC did not impose the law and they let the network operate without the franchise, it will create more problem in the future.

So, the question of “ Is ABS-CBN’s Shutdown Is Justified? “

For me, of-course it is the right thing to do, because the law should be imposed whether there’s a pandemic or not. The law is the universal guide that every citizen should follow and respect, whether you’re a rich individual or poor one.

And maybe after this pandemic, then there will be a time where the House of the Representatives could discuss the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise. But as off now, they should be in shutdown as to the respect of the law of this country.
